The Ballet Folklorico de Xochimilco was founded in 1982 by Marcos Sanchez, who is still the General Director and Coreographer.
At the begining, the Ballet was formed for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years, and was known then as “Ballet Nacional Infantil de Xochimilco” (Xochimilco´s National Children Ballet), a few years later the dancers grew up and the group changed its name to “Ballet Nacional Infantil y Juvenil de Xochimilco” (Xochimilco´s National Children and Youthful Ballet), finally, the necesity of change radically the name came, and then, The “Ballet Folklorico de Xochimilco” was born; actually, the Ballet is formed for people of all ages with no more desire than show the beautiful and rich mexican dancistic treasure.
The Ballet has participated constantly in a lot of festivities within Xochimilco’s territory such as “La Flor mas Bella del Ejido”, “Feria Regional del Maiz Blanco”, “Fiesta en el Bosque”, “Feria de la Nieve”, “Feria del Dulce Cristalizado”, “Feria de la Alegria y el Amaranto” in the “Carlos Pellicer Theater” and “Quetzalcoatl Cultural Forum". At the same time, the Ballet danced several times for so many events prepared for the Federal Delegate Elias Martinez. Outside Xochimilco, participated in uncounted events organized for The Mexican Capital Goverment (G.D.F.), at the “City´s Theater” and as mexican attractive performer in the World Soccer Cup “Mexico 86”; besides, has performed for T.V. shows as “Chiquilladas”, “Hoy Mismo”, “Eco” and “Mi Barrio”. It has also shown its performance abroad. In 1987, was invited for the Mexican Consul in San Antonio Texas, U.S.A. to participate at the “Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas Celebration” on September, performing on the most important stages and T.V. shows of that city.
With more than 22 years of existence, the Ballet has submerged in national folklore and popular culture, renewing regularly its programs throughout the different and most representative regions of Mexico.
